Aquatic pathogen detection is essential for disease prevention and curation during culture periods, and molecular biology techniques such as polymerase chain reaction have become a well-established, accurate and effective way for pathogen detection that requires a much shorter time to obtain correct results compared to traditional microbiological methods. These techniques are very powerful in the field of not only aquaculture, but also other animal agriculture industries, and even in the hospital for human disease. Therefore, this course provides a basic concept of how to perform nucleic acid extraction and a few PCR-related techniques for aquatic pathogen detection.

This course is for any student, biologist, or researcher who would like to learn the basics of tissue collection, nucleic acid extraction and pathogen detection in white shrimp. It is designed for learners with no experience in programming whatsoever.
